This month we are looking at the importance of taking a break from the routine and grind.  While many cultures around the world have fewer work hours or take rest breaks during the day that is larger not the American way.  I'm not sure how we got here, but in the USA, we are more focused on working harder, with longer hours, and little emphasis on taking breaks.  This is a pattern that as individuals, would serve us well to alter. Move towards taking breaks from time to time whether it be a few minutes, a day off, or an actual vacation of multiple days.  This week is about taking an occasional day off to just rest and recharge.

"The concept of a 'day off' is to allow your soul to catch up with your body." — Terri Guillemets

I'm talking about an extra day, not the weekend.  Whether you would like to indulge in a massage, catch a movie at the theater, take a short hike, or visit a museum it will do you wonders to treat yourself occasionally.  Many people call this a Mental Health Day and if you have a very proactive employer, they will understand the importance of this.

Today's Coaching Challenge

When was the last time you took an extra day off?  Didn't it feel like a real treat to be away the office and having some fun relaxing instead of filling your day with chores and errands.

You will have a different attitude towards your work, and you will be far more productive.

Action to take

Take out your calendar and see when you can schedule that day off.  Promise yourself that this will be a day to just do whatever you want without concern of things on your "To Do list".  This is time just for you.
